Ships at Sea

NED worked on the delivery of an unprecedented five ships for Carnival Corporation for 2010. Since May, NED has seen the maiden voyages of three new ships for which they provided designs for all entertainment and broadcast systems including commissioning and inspection services.  Besides the design & equipment specification of the theatres for all three ships, NED also oversaw the design and installation of the entertainment systems in all other public areas including dance clubs atriums, casinos, lounges, bars and control rooms.

Cunard- Queen Elizabeth

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth arrived  October 2010 when Her Majesty The Queen named her in a spectacular ceremony.
 
The three-deck Royal Court Theatre, with tiered seating for 832 guests, features full-scale, West End-style productions which employs NED designed and specified lifts, turntables, rigging  and other stage equipment, audio/visual and lighting & control systems.

Besides the theatre consulting work on the Royal Court Theatre, NED also provided technical consulting and design for all of the other public spaces such as: The Yacht Club,
the Empire Casino, the Grand Lobby and the Britannia Restaurant.

Showroom At Sea

Launched from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in Venice on July 4, 2010, the 86,000-ton Nieuw Amsterdam celebrates the glamour and history of New York City, formerly called Nieuw Amsterdam, with its inspired interior design and art collection.

 

Showroom at Sea is a huge three-deck theater done in a bright Art Deco theme. It was here that HRH Princess Máxima officially named the ship. This showroom features a variety of theatrical, musical and comedic productions and has a modern-day take on the classic nightclub that features state-of-the-art technology and a different show and themed atmosphere nightly. NED  provided theatre consultation and all of the entertainment systems technical design.

The Yachts of Seabourn-Sojourn

NED completed work on the Seabourn Sojourn, the newest yacht in the Seabourn line.  British supermodel Twiggy was among the 700 attendees during naming ceremonies of this 450-passenger ship, which debuted in London on June 4, 2010.

 

This new vessel has four dining venues as well as six bars and lounges. Grand Salon is a multi-use space which can serve as a theater, mini-ballroom, disco or during the day, as a meeting room.  NED designed all of the entertainment systems including lighting, audio, and video for the 18 venues including the show lounge, a secondary lounge, dining room, spa, crew and support areas.


 

 Current projects include deliveries in 2011 for Carnival, Costa, and Seabourn and the development of all entertainment system designs for the next generation of Princess ships.

Nautilus Entertainment Design was responsible for the audio-visual, rigging and show lighting for the new $40 million, 45,000-square-foot multi-functional Camelback Ballroom installation located as part of The Phoenician resort complex in Scottsdale, AZ.

Current projects include a new hotel and casino for The Jena Band of the Choctaw Indians in Grant Parish, LA, a large interactive video system for a corporate headquarters in San Diego and a theatre consultation for the St. Augustine's Academy.

NED designed the lighting for the tenth anniversary celebration of the General Motors North Hollywood Advanced Design Center in California.  GM's Cadillac division presented two new concept cars along with a few concept models from the past. Kurt Doemelt was the principal designer for this project, working onsite with Ashley Johnstone. Aquila Productions produced this event.

NED again designed the lighting for the GM exhibit  at the Los Angeles Convention Center for the 2010 LA Auto Show. The 2011 Chevy Volt, after being selected as Green Car Journal's Green Car of the Year®, got special attention of the array of cars from GM divisions of Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet.  Don Hill was the principal lighting designer, working onsite with both Michael Paolini and Carissa Walker. Light Source Inc. provided crew staffing and equipment for both GM  projects.

PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi hosted the First Annual Chairman's Circle of Winners induction ceremony on October 14 during a gala ceremony at the world-renowned Museum of Natural History in New York City. Jim Tetlow created the lighting for this event produced by Kaleidoscope Productions. Equipment was supplied by PRG.


What would the NED December newsletter be without a photo of Jim Tetlow's lighting of the annual Shoji Tabuchi Christmas show in Branson, Missouri? This is the 19th year that Jim has lit this show.

Current lighting projects include GM exhibits and press events at the Detroit Auto Show, the Chevrolet dealer business meeting in Las Vegas and several projects for Hewlett Packard.
